By law ESAs and Service Dogs are not required to wear an identification harness, but it is recommended because it can quickly clear up confusion in a public space. Keep in mind, if you purchase an identification harness for your ESA, it must state the animal is an Emotional Support Animal and not a Service Animal! Impersonating a Service Animal in any way can land you with a criminal charge. The charge differs from state-to-state. Learn more about the specific charges for impersonating a Service Animal.
